Why am I studying English?

Why am I studying English? This is the question that I first made to myself when I was in high school. "It is just another way of globalization" I used to say. The truth is that I had no idea of why.
When I started my studies in the University I also started to understand so many things about job issues. There was this girl, a friend of mine, who’s got her first job in a very important place. She was not different from all of us but she had a special ability: she could spoke English fluently; due to that, her boss gave her a job in Canada for her to speak with other clients of the native language.

That was the moment when I figured it out. I am studying English because I want better chances of work and travel, which is going to give me a much better life quality.

I am studying English because I know that it is the language of the modern world; this is the language of the opportunities, because it is spoken in every part of the world and it will be good for me and my labor development to make myself be heard everywhere.

I know that there are others important languages for us to learn, due to its global capability, history and technologies development, but I am pretty sure that English is one of the easiest and it is a good start to make ourselves be more prepared  and more globalized.

  3. It's true, nowadays you can't stand out if you don't know a second language, it's like only having one major, opportunities get better if you study more, and stop staying in the comfort zone.
It's great that your friend's experience sort of inspired you. Stick to it!

  4. I'm so happy that you have this perspective now. Quite often, many people in the corporate world agree on the fact that UNAM students are more than qualified for most jobs, but when it comes to foreign languages they lack the minimum skills to take on a bilingual position. So, I'm glad you take this as a personal challenge because -in my experience, it's the most efficient way to learn.
